The search started on four bases information
of the family’s legend. So, the family comes from
Jászó
and has Moravian origin.
The family had some kind of noble
sword and
coat of arms,
which remained at the relatives in Transylvania.
To
look through
Jászó,
and the history of Jászó, it turned out, that lived Skondas there, and around
indeed, but only from the middle of XVIII. Century. After the Turk, the church
district of Jászó got under the authority of
Louka.
The reviving of the ruined abbey and his farmland could be connected to the
activity of
Sauberer András abbot. The
chance, that the appearing of Skondas is related with his activity, was not
proved.
The family, appeared in Jászómindszent constitutes our family tree, which
can be deduced to this day.
At the same time lived Skondas sparsely in Pány, in Makaranc, and
in the region of Miskolc. Our connection to them could not be detected
yet.
We also got into touch with an Ukrainian Shkonda. His family lives in a great number in the village
Novoselovka in
Region Voronyezs. They
know themselves of Greek origin.
The Moravian origin have proved so, that there was Skonda, who arrived from
Bohemia,
among
the Skondas, who emigrated to America, in the XIX, Century. According the census
of 1880,
Joseph Sconda, who born in
1850, lived in Salt Creak’s Tana
settlement, Iowa, as farmer, with his
wife, Johanna, and with their children, Joseph, and Agnes. They had in the farm,
two assistant too.
Also many Skonda have arrived to America from Italy. We list some of them, not
claiming to be comprehensive:
-
Guiseppe and Pasquale Sconda,
who arrived from S. Constantinó of South Italy, in the 1920's years, settled
down in the state of New Jersey.
- In the same time have arrived Scondas with Italian origin, trough
Hamburg, presumably from North Italy (Emil
Sconda).
- It is unknown when, but also have arrived
Skondas into
state Pennsylvania
Scondas, according their names with Italian origin
(Catherine,
Minnie).

Calabria
Magna Grecia

|
So we may just
presume, from where the Sconda
family originates?. Though the name is rare, still
exist, scattered in the world.
In Calabria Greek settlers had founded colony cities as of the 6th
century B.C. primarily in coastwise areas. In the areas where people still
preserve Greek customs, songs and where Scondas still live today.
Scattering of population to many directions is reasoned by the inimical
circumstances. Some of its territories depopulated many times due to epidemies,
earthquake, piratical marauding, wars .
Transmigration directed not just towards the northern countries of Europe and
America, but also towards Ukraine.
Based all on the above, the Greek origin of Scondas may rather be more
probable than the Italian.

Name
Sconda/
Skonda/
Shkonda
|
|
The name is written in the case of West-European families in the form of
Sconda,
in East-Europe, in general, in the form of Skonda, in Ukraine in form Shkonda.

Coat of Arms
Blasius Georgius Skonda
|
|
The
Family also preserved an coat of arms, which is not Hungarian style, according
the heraldry.
The coat of arms is not known nor in the National Achieves of Hungary, nor in
the Achieves of Wine.
It is sure, that the family had it drown from a seal ever, because there is a
monogram beside to it too.
So neither the nobility could be proved, but the identification of the user of
the seal succeeded. He is Blasius Georgius Skonda, who was born in the
year of 1797,
in Jászó,
and died in the year of 1863,
in Arad.
Presumably he used the seal for his post. We present his life at the
presentation of Georgius
branch.

The family
had a female branch, living in Transylvania. We made contact with them as soon
as was possible, in the matter of the sword. It is true, that it took decades,
but succeeded.
It turned out from the sword, that it is a
dagger stick,
its owner a notable person, Tüköry Lajos, the freedom fighter hero. His
life is connected to the
Elisabetha branch, we present it there in detail.
Our military historian adviser sad once, that “the legends of the family
should be taken seriously, but should be all of them checked”. So we did.
